Why does my son look like he's swinging with only one hand in baseball?

It looks like he's swinging with only one hand sometimes because the back arm (top hand for righty) quits early, lets go before contact, or doesn't finish through the ball—often from lead arm dominating and pulling everything. This creates weak, arm-only swings with low power and inconsistent contact. Fix it by cueing the back hand to hit/drive all the way through the ball: keep both hands connected until after contact, with the top hand releasing well after (not before or at) for full extension and barrel speed.

  • Back arm quitting early = short path, weak contact, looks "one-handed"

  • Drive back hand through the ball → keeps connection, adds power and control

  • Top hand off only after contact → full finish, harder hits without arm dominance
